Looking for the best off-road trails near Salem? There are a number of popular locations around Oregon that off-roaders love to visit. It’s important to keep in mind that only certain trails (like the ones below) are for going off the beaten path, and many are rated for easy, moderate and hard trails. With the right Dodge model, there’s nothing more enjoyable than going off road.
First, according to All Trails, the best starter trail is Crack-in-the-Ground Trail in Silver Lake. This trail goes over an ancient volcanic fissure that’s over two miles long. Only some trails are open to motor vehicles, so be sure to go only where your car, truck, or SUV can travel. It’s arid in Crack-in-the-Ground, so be sure to bring plenty of water.
Next, visit Elk Lake Trail in Mount Hood National Forest. This 8.2-mile trail is located near Lyons. To negotiate its rugged terrain, you should have 6 to 8 inches of ground clearance. While the trail is rated as moderate, it’s manageable for most beginners as well.
For those who want a difficult trail, check out Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area in Joaquin Miller State Park. This sandy trail offers 40 miles of dunes. This coastal park has 30 lakes and ponds, so be sure to come prepared for various types of terrain.
